Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr takes home our Week 8 Air It Out Award for his otherworldly performance against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The Raiders’ off-season plan to bulk up and solidify the offensive line has paid off in spades. The beefed up offensive line has surrendered a league-low nine sacks and kept Carr upright, giving him time to stand in the pocket and pick apart opposing defenses. The young gun-slinger has played great all season, but his 513 yard, 4 touchdown game this week was on a whole other level. Carr completed passes to ten different receivers, including one to offensive tackle Donald Penn for the big man’s fourth career touchdown.
Carr leaned heavily on his top two targets as Amari Cooper and Michael Crabtree both topped the 100-yard mark, combining for 20 catches, 281 yards and 1 touchdown.
Carr is currently tied for third in the league in passing touchdowns with 17 and is fifth in passing yards with 2,321. Carr is on pace to end the season with 4,642 yards and 34 touchdowns.
