Bring It Down Award – Week 13: Golden Tate

Detroit Lions wide receiver Golden Tate

Detroit Lions wide receiver Golden Tate pulls down our Week 13 Bring It Down Award with his 8 catch, 145 yard, 1 touchdown performance against the New Orleans Saints!

Golden Tate was unstoppable on Sunday. He made some big plays, including a 66-yard catch-and-run touchdown. Tate fought and wound his way through the Saints’ defense and earned every one of his 145 yards. Here are the highlights from his big day:

With future Hall-of-Fame receiver Calvin “Megatron” Johnson retiring this offseason, the Lions needed somebody to step up in a big way. Golden Tate has done just that and become quarterback Matthew Stafford’s go-to receiver as the Lions have had to adjust to life without Megatron. Don’t let the fact that his numbers are slightly down from the past two years fool you. Golden Tate has been clutch for the Lions. The reason for his numbers declining slightly is more due to a more balanced Lions offense that has spread the ball around more this year. Tate has inflicted the most damage after the catch, making the job a little easier for his quarterback. In fact, Tate has been the best in the league after the catch this year:

At 8-4 and two games ahead of the Vikings and Packers, the Lions are in a good place, but head coach Jim Caldwell and offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter would like to see more touchdowns than field goals going forward. If Matthew Stafford and Golden Tate can keep connecting like they did on Sunday, they may just find the remedy for that. Which brings us to the question of the day…
