Air It Out Award – Week 3: Trevor Siemian

Denver Broncos quarterback Trevor Siemian

Our Week 3 Air It Out Award goes to Denver Broncos’ quarterback Trevor Siemian!

After two weeks of playing well enough to not lose (444 yards, 1TD, 3INT in first two weeks combined), Coach Kubiak gave Siemian a little more freedom on the road against the Bengals in Week 3. It paid off, as Siemian went off and kept the Broncos undefeated.

Trevor Siemian joining Peyton Manning on a short list for anything is a good sign for the Broncos. Credit the Broncos coaching staff for trusting Siemian and letting him loose with this game plan. It takes guts to put the game on the arm of a guy who threw three interceptions in his first two games (even though the blame isn’t all on him for those). But Kubiak and general manager John Elway have known all along what they have in the 2015 seventh-round pick. The Broncos organization, as well as key players on offense and defense, have been vocal in their support for Siemian since he was named the starter. The dividends are starting to pay, as Siemian is playing with more confidence and he is building a stronger chemistry with his playmakers. He is playing like a quarterback that can help the Broncos win–not just one that will keep them from losing.

Confidence was definitely a big part of Siemian’s huge Week 3 performance, and I’m sure he gained some confidence in his skills and the mental aspect of the game after spending a year lining up across from the Broncos’ defense in practice every day.

Some opposing defenses may look a little vanilla compared to the defense he practiced against all last year, but the Bengals defense is a consistently solid unit. Siemian put on quite a performance in Cincinnati and definitely earned our Air It Out Award.

Here are the highights from Siemian’s coming out party against the Bengals:
