Bring It Down Award – Week 3: Marvin Jones

Marvin Jones Detroit Lions wide receiver

Detroit Lions wide receiver Marvin Jones wins our Week 3 Bring It Down Award!

Marvin Jones more than earned this award with his monster 205-yard, 2 touchdown performance in the Lions’ 27-34 loss to the Green Bay Packers. Although it wasn’t enough to get the win, Jones brought the Lions within 7 points with 1:31 left in the game after the Packers got out to a fast 34-3 start. Jones’ performance was the biggest bright spot for the Lions. Jones helped swing the momentum Detroit’s way with his first touchdown of the game–a 73-yard catch-and-run at the end of the first half. The Lions kept that momentum coming out of halftime, outscoring the Packers 17-3 in the second half of the game.

Signing Marvin Jones, Jr., the former Cincinnati Bengals receiver, has proven to be a great decision for the Lions, especially considering that he came to Detroit in the same offseason that Calvin Johnson, Jr. retired. Megatron, who walked away from the game holding practically every team record, left a huge void on the Lions offense. Marvin Jones has amply filled that void, becoming a reliable target for Matt Stafford. Jones currently leads the league in receiving yards:

Jones is on track for a 2,176 yard season, which would be a new league record. He may not keep up his current pace through the entire season, but Jones has shown that he is a playmaker that the Lions can lean on to consistently produce. You can bet Jones will provide plenty more highlights throughout the year. Here is Marvin Jones’ biggest play from this week:
