Ground and Pound Award – Week 4: Le’Veon Bell

Pittsburgh Steelers running back Le'Veon Bell vs Kansas City Chiefs

Pittsburgh Steelers running back Le’Veon Bell wins our Week 4 Ground and Pound Award for his performance in his 2016 debut!

In his first week back from a 3-game suspension, Le’Veon Bell showed no signs of rust or conditioning issues. Those who expected DeAngelo Williams to still have a big role while Bell took some time to get back in football shape were surprised to see Bell roar back into action with 18 carries for 144 yards. He added another 5 catches for 34 yards through the air, as the Steelers went on to cream the Kansas City Chiefs 43-14. While DeAngelo Williams will no doubt get touches and make an impact through the rest of the season, Le’Veon Bell is back as the unquestioned top dog in the Steelers’ backfield.

Here are the highlights from Bell’s big day against the Chiefs:

Watching the highlights, you can see that Bell is already in midseason form. Bell’s agility and vision were on display, and his cuts and spin moves were just as smooth as we remembered. He was patient in his running and found holes all night long. All of that shows up best on his big 44 yard run. As good as Bell is as a runner, his unique skill set make him even more of a matchup nightmare in the passing game. You can see that the Steelers are already looking to exploit those matchups with screens and quick passes.

The Steelers’ offense was already ranked as one of the best in the league, but with Le’Veon Bell back in the lineup, watch out. This offense will be even more dangerous for the rest of the season, and you can bet we’ll see more big plays from Bell both on the ground and through the air.

It’s good to have you back, Le’Veon.
