Bring It Down Award – Week 4: Julio Jones

Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones catch and run past Carolina Panthers cornerback Bene Benwikere

JU-LIO-OOOOOO! Atlanta Falcons receiver Julio Jones put on an absolute clinic in his Week 4 matchup against the Carolina Panthers, winning our Bring It Down Award in a landslide.

Julio brought in 12 catches for 300 yards and 1 touchdown. That’s more receiving yards than A.J. Green and Dontrell Inman combined. No wonder Julio got 85% of our votes for this week’s award. It was really no contest. Sorry, A.J. Green.

Here is NFL.com’s breakdown of every catch and every yard of Julio’s monster day:

Julio torched the Panthers’ secondary in every way imaginable. He had catches on comeback routes, crossing routes, go routes, tipped balls you name it. Jones is always good. But against the Panthers, he was so good that it cost a man his job. Literally. starting CB Bene Benwikere got cut by the Panthers only a few days after getting burned for 228 of Julio’s 300 yards.

Julio and Matty Ice are off to a blazing hot start, and the Falcons are sitting at 4-1 because of it. That’s a pretty great start, considering the rest of the NFC South only has 4 wins combined. It’s still way too early to punch the Falcons’ ticket to the playoffs–especially considering their late season fade last year–but with DeVonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman running so effectively, and offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan consistently finding ways to create mismatches, Julio should still be making these kinds of plays deep in the playoffs.

Julio is without a doubt one of the best receivers in the NFL. In fact, 37% of our voters said he is THE best. Another 45% of our voters put him at #2 behind Antonio Brown.

Wherever you rank him, there’s no debating Julio’s dominance, and the Falcons (and all fantasy owners… including, of course, the guy I got matched up against in Week 4) are happy to have him making plays for them, instead of against them.

UPDATE: As of the end of Week 5, Julio has 517 yards, good for third in the NFL, trailing only Marvin Jones and A.J. Green. Julio is on track for 1,654 yards receiving for the year.
