Air It Out Award – Week 1: Drew Brees

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees

Drew Brees walks away from Week 1 with our Air It Out Award.

We will be highlighting one quarterback each week by giving the Air It Out Award to a player chosen by the fans in our end-of-the-football-week poll. Be sure to check back for the poll each week and please retweet us to help expand the number of voters.

Anybody who has ever had Drew Brees on their fantasy team will not be surprised at the day he had against the Oakland Raiders: Brees threw for 432 yards and 4 touchdowns. What is surprising, though, is that it wasn’t enough to beat the Raiders. He’s probably the only quarterback who has to endure the sting of losing a game with that kind of production, thanks to a defense that is as generous to opposing offenses as Brees is dominant. Despite not getting the win, Brees was slinging the ball around, completing passes to seven different receivers.

This 98-yard touchdown to Brandin Cooks was one of the biggest plays of the day:

Drew Brees has thrown for at least 4,600 yards and 32 touchdowns in the last six seasons and at 37-years old, he certainly does not look to be slowing down. After losing some of his favorite targets over the past few seasons, the Saints offense is restocked with electric playmakers. 2016 looks likely to turn out to be another big year for Brees.

You can definitely count on Drew Brees winning a couple more Air It Out Awards throughout the season. Let’s just hope he can get some sort of defensive help to get some wins to go along with the stats.
